How it works

What this is: URL encoding (also called percent-encoding) replaces unsafe characters with %XX hex pairs so they can travel safely inside a URL.
How it works: encodeURIComponent escapes everything except A-Z a-z 0-9 - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ) — use it for query string values. encodeURI preserves a broader set suitable for an entire URI (including :/?#).
Worked example: encodeURIComponent("a b&c=1") → "a%20b%26c%3D1" decodeURIComponent("caf%C3%A9") → "café"
